Decentralized Canon for Fictional Worlds

Without Narrative Providence

Fictional worlds and their communities generate vast amounts of precious content across social platforms — fan fiction, character roleplay, worldbuilding, and canonizing events. These social interactions, and their witness, is the essence of our modern lore. As these worlds occupy our collective imagination and sentiment, they become vital aspects of our shared experience.

Centralized media platforms imprison these cultural artifacts in private keeps that require compliance for access. The history of our shared narratives, and the providence of our authors becomes inaccessible without their permission. This allows private entities to commodify the shared canon, which ultimately limits its survivability and extensibility in favor of capital or archic exploitation.
